“TAKE FIVE”

Dahab, Egypt — 1st Light

Limited Edition Fine Art Print

THE STORY BEHIND THE ART

This moment happened after the beach, after the waiting, after the threat.

I had left Masbat Beach before first light.
No escort. No protection. No plan that anyone else knew.

Eight kilometres from Dahab town, just beyond the military checkpoint, sits a small roadside service station known locally as Take Five. It looks harmless. That’s what makes it dangerous.

This artwork captures the exact moment I stopped there.

I knew I was being watched.
I knew removal was a possibility.
I knew panic would give them what they wanted.

So I did the opposite.

I sat down.
I ordered a coffee.
I stayed still.

Not because it was safe — but because stillness was the move.

The chair, the cup, the kiosk behind me — all ordinary objects — become symbols of control under pressure. This was not rest. This was a calculated pause. A decision point where discipline mattered more than speed.

Moments later, a black vehicle with Sharm plates passed slowly. The looks were wrong. Predatory. Evaluating. I gave nothing away.

This piece isn’t about running.
It’s about holding position when every instinct tells you to disappear.

That is why this image exists.
