THE COMMANDO SLIDE 3

Dahab, Sinai — Life or Death Manoeuvre

The Story Behind the Artwork

This artwork documents a moment where there were only two outcomes: precision or death.

After days moving through hostile terrain with no support, I reached a point where the route simply ended. Ahead was open space. Below was a drop measuring hundreds of metres. There was no safe descent, no rope, no equipment, no alternate route.

The only viable option was a manoeuvre I later named “The Commando Slide.”

With my back pressed flat against a vertical rock face, boots scraping for friction, I had to slide laterally down bare stone — controlling momentum entirely through body positioning, micro-adjustments, and pain tolerance. Gravity was constant. The rock offered no forgiveness.

Below me was a two-foot ledge.
Not a platform.
Not a safety shelf.
A margin smaller than a single misstep.

Missing it would have meant an uncontrolled fall — there would have been no recovery, no second movement, no survival window.

This manoeuvre demanded:

  • Extreme spatial awareness

  • Advanced body-weight physics

  • Calm under terminal pressure

  • The ability to suppress panic while gravity actively worked against me

This was not climbing.
This was not descent.
This was controlled survival movement in an environment where physics does not negotiate.

The artwork captures that moment mid-commitment — when retreat was impossible, the body was already in motion, and success depended entirely on discipline, balance, and execution.

There was no heroism in this moment.
Only consequence.

Why This Artwork Matters

Most survival stories focus on endurance.
This one is about precision under fatal constraint.

The Commando Slide represents a category of movement that is not taught, not standard, and not repeatable without the exact conditions, mindset, and experience.

It exists because it had to.

This piece is part of the Dahab Survival Sequence — documenting real decisions made when there were no safe options left.
